The Garage Mud Room Makeover

Posted: April 17th, 2009 | Author: Katie | Filed under: Simple Solutions |

After just sending my second newsletter out, I received several requests asking for more pictures of my garage mud room makeover. You don’t have to twist my arm! Here ya go!

Here was my inspiration picture (or more like a dream picture)…and a little extra inspiration from my friends Tami from Mike and Me + Three, Wendy @ Shabby Nest and Laurel from Ducks in a Row. (To see their mud rooms just sign up and I’ll send you my newsletter!)

Seriously, my heart always beats a little faster when I see that picture. (Maybe it’s the red rain boots?) Now don’t get too excited - mine is NOT going to look anything like this! I have to work with what I have people…

We were very fortunate to have great shelving in our garage and I simply started with a boot tray that we place our boots or shoes on. I have my recycling and equipment bins along with pool gear on the shelves. I bought a cubby organizer at Target to hold other kid equipment. I’m thinking I will use one half for each boy filled with umbrellas, shin gaurds, cleats, pads, etc. I also laid a mat and small stool on the ground to help with getting shoes on.

Did you see the dog tail hook for Lucy’s leash? An IKEA find!

I’m always setting things by the garage door that I don’t want to forget to take with me - so I created this little don’t forget drop that I can throw things that I need to return/mail/etc. in and of course I tagged it and tied a little red ribbon for the reminder. (The tags shouldn’t surprise you since you should already know the obsession I have with them).

I also had a wire shelf that I collect things on and fill pots at the top with essentials. I spray painted a wood hook rack to use for bags.

But something was needed above that space so I made a little, ‘Welcome to Our Home’ Plaque and just framed it in a picture frame and hung it.

Thanks again so much for all your kind words and support! I hope you all enjoy the rest of the month.

I also added this to Julia’s Hooked on Fridays Party since obviously I’m just a little infatuated with mud rooms!
