My Drawer Dilemma

Posted: March 31st, 2009 | Author: Katie | Filed under: Simple Solutions |

Welcome to Our Master Bathroom Story.

Well, hopefully you can tell that when we moved in it DID NOT work for us

(Yes, that is pink carpet in the bathroom).

and now this SO DOES

My husband and his brother put a lot of work into it and we just loved how it turned out. My two favorite items in the bathroom are the vanities. My husband and I bought these for ourselves at ZGallerie for our 5th wedding anniversary.

So you might be wondering what the problem might be?

The answer is what, right now, is on top of the counter, that should instead be inside the drawer…

Now see, I don’t think I use that much makeup, (or do I? Now looking at it - it kinda looks like I do?) but anyways, what I do have, I want to be hidden and in some kind of organized fashion. I have tried to put it in a cute little makeup bag - but I end up getting frustrated trying to find certain things.

Then I tried to just let go and let them be free and that didn’t work well either.

I know I can find some organizers but I’d like to not have to go searching - especially since the drawer is has an odd shape. And ideas?! If so — I have 2 more drawers that could use the same treatment!!wfmwbannerkristen

This week I’ve joined in again on Works for Me Wednesday @ We are THAT Family and this week is reversed so head on over and help out others like me!

I don’t know if this would work, but have you considered using one of those fabric sock drawer organizers? They seem like they would be a little more friendly to odd drawer sizes, and if worse came to worse, you could cut and reshape it slightly on the bowed out part of your drawer.

Small baskets? I use inexpensive drawer baskets-come in square, rectangle, long and narrow. The drawer seems deep, so you could experiment with different sizes heights.

You will have a space in the front, because of the shape of the drawer, but maybe you could use that space as its own ‘container’ (perhaps stand up your deodorant and toothpaste there)?

Containers definitely help keep things together and from shifting. I wish I could get my hands on it!

Adjustable drawer organizers are a good idea, too.

    Measure before you go shopping!

Lovely new bathroom! You may be able to cut and stain some very thin pieces of board to make your own organizer to fit (I’d do a few vertical divisions). And I find myself reaching for the same lipstick, mascara and blush every time, so I’d put those on top and organize the rest by type down below — still easy to access, but not up top where you want your daily stuff to be. Good luck! :-)

I’d say get some baskets or small boxes that fit in there. Actually I think 2 baskets would work. One could be makeup, 2nd would be everything else. Take the 2nd one out & use it all, ie. brush teeth, hair, deo, etc. Then put it back & get makeup box out. You could get 2 boxes that sit side by side or 2 that would sit on top of each other.

What a beautiful transformation! I’m thinking those purse organizers might work for your odd shaped drawer. There are many kinds, but here is an example… http://purseket.com/

    Good luck with your organization!
